St. John’s Lutheran is a downtown church with no space available for a vegetable garden, but Pastor Bob and Terri generously offered garden space in their back yard. In our initial season (2011) we began with just a small plot–4 feet by 50 feet–and planted tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and cucumbers. We want to see how our little experiment works before we expand. We’ve scheduled two people to care for the garden on a rotating schedule of one week on duty, followed by three weeks off. So far it’s worked well. And what does Pastor Bob think? He’s been talking about a larger garden ever since that day in May when we planted vegetable starts in the garden. There’s no looking back–wait ’til next year!
